What is EMBRACE?
EMBRACE is a Mentorship Program established to allow inner city youth the resources for education, life skills, career development, social development and community support. This will aid in opportunities for leadership, engagement, educational development and networking experiences. Youth will be able to receive resources needed to develop skills applicable to education, school, community life, and life skills, in the form of workshops, activities and other developmental programs.
What does EMBRACE do?
EMBRACE is all about providing opportunities for youth who may not have them otherwise due to uncontrollable circumstances. Underprivileged youth are usually from inner cities and majority of the time those families can’t afford to pay for programs. That’s what we are here for. To allow youth the opportunity to expand their education, life skills, education goals and any other goals they would like to fulfill. We would like to be a home away from home. Involvement in EMBRACE provides a support network of people with similar experiences, opportunities for leadership and community growth, educational and life skill opportunities, social relief and financial support when available.
Mentoring Program Objectives/Goals:
The mentoring program is designed to help bring self awareness of professional and personal skills and talents that may be hidden or not revealed at this time. It’s also used as a great development tool for career development, educational development, social skills, problem solving, and conflict resolution, while continuing to invest in you as a person.
The program is designed with the following goals in mind:
1. To provide the opportunity to develop a mentoring relationship that will inspire personal and professional success
2. To provide mentees the opportunity to gain broader perspectives about their field of choice, values, norms, education, expectations, and behaviors, and how gaining these perspectives can enhance their ability to make productive career decisions

Program Information
In the Mentoring Program, the mentee is paired with a mentor based on specific criteria (goal, experience, etc.) by the Program Manager/Team. Participation in this program is not an assurance of promotional opportunities. However, this Program provides an excellent framework for career development, educational development, social skills, problem solving, and conflict resolution.
Below are the Program Implementation assumptions:
The program is designed to be strictly voluntary
The program design is based on a one-on-one and group pairing model
The mentoring relationship is primarily mentee driven
Qualified mentors are those who have a strong belief in the merits of a mentoring relationship. An effective communicator capable of delivering balanced feedback
Qualified mentees are those who are proactive in the pursuit of their career development
Clearly defined roles, responsibilities, and expectations
No supervisor and reporting employee pairing
Goal/Expectation matching
Mentors and mentees are first required to complete separate Application Forms. The information is kept confidential and will be used to match mentors to mentees with similar interests that can offer guidance in the mentee’s areas of need. Mentors and mentees should understand the expectations and responsibilities of the program that are essential to the success of their joint efforts and partnership. The mentor and mentee can develop their own schedule of meetings. It is recommended that meetings should take place at least once per month. Mentees and Mentors will also meet once per month for a group activity at Supervisor’s intended location (Mumford High School) Phone calls and email consultation can take place more frequently, depending upon the mutual needs of the parties involved. The Program Manager will consult with the mentor and mentee to assess and support the development and status of the relationship. The mentoring relationship will be evaluated annually. The purpose of the evaluation is to review the progress of the relationship and goals attainment.
PLEASE NOTE: Joining a Mentoring program does not, in any way, imply dissatisfaction with the role and/or operating style of the Mentee’s Manager. The mentor’s role is to supplement the support provided by the Manager.
